The DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest

This program is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all senior class students enrolled in accredited public or private secondary schools that are in good standing with their State Boards of Education. United States citizenship is not required.

The student selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the qualities of Dependability (which includes truthfulness, loyalty, and punctuality); Service (which includes cooperation, courtesy, and consideration of others); Leadership (which includes personality, self-control, and ability to assume responsibility); and Patriotism (which includes unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation) to an outstanding degree.

The Fort Vasquez Chapter invites all high school seniors enrolled at the following Colorado high schools to participate: Brighton, Fort Lupton, Idalia, Liberty, Weld Central, Woodland, and Arickaree. Only one student per school each year may be honored as that school’s DAR Good Citizen.

Each school’s DAR Good Citizen receives a DAR Good Citizen pin and certificate. That student is then eligible and has the option to enter the scholarship portion of the contest, judged on personal goals, accomplishments and a written essay.

The DAR Junior American Citizen Program

The Junior American Citizen Program was formed to promote good citizenship, an appreciation of American history and knowledge of our heritage.The JAC Contest is open to all pre-school through 12th grade students in public, private, and parochial schools and in sanctioned home study programs, including those students who may be physically or mentally challenged or in gifted/talented programs. This contest is conducted without regard to race, religion, sex, or national origin.

Currently, we have three clubs in two schools (Overland Trail Middle School in Brighton and Weld Central High School in Keenesburg) and we always welcome more participation from other area students!

American History Essay

The purpose of the American History Committee is to promote American history throughout the year by honoring significant historical people, places, dates and events. All grade 5, 6, 7, and 8 students in a public, private, or parochial school, or those who are home schooled are eligible.

Dar Scholarship

NSDAR awards the scholarships through the DAR Scholarship Committee. All applicants must be citizens of the United States and must attend, or plan to attend, an accredited college or university in the United States. All four year, or more, scholarships must be consecutive years and are renewable only upon review and approval of annual transcript by respective NSDAR Chairman. Applicants must obtain a letter of sponsorship from their local DAR Chapter.
